How to Use the Handicap System

1Enable Handicaps

Edit your league settings and toggle "Enable Handicaps". Choose between two modes:

  • Manual — you set each player's handicap value yourself
  • Auto — the system calculates handicaps from 3-dart averages

2Manual Mode

Set each player's handicap value (0–10) directly. Click the handicap badge next to a player's name on the league page to edit it inline.

A handicap of 0 means no bonus legs. A handicap of 3 means the player starts 3 legs up in their matches.

3Auto Mode

The system calculates handicaps from each player's 3-dart average. Players below the base average receive bonus legs to level the playing field.

Configure these settings in your league:

  • Base Average — the target average (e.g. 50). Players below this get bonus legs
  • Step Size — how many average points per bonus leg (e.g. a step of 5 means every 5 points below the base average adds 1 bonus leg)

4How Bonus Legs Work

In a handicap match, the weaker player starts with bonus legs. For example, if Player A has a handicap of 2 and Player B has a handicap of 0, Player A starts 2–0 up.

The difference between the two players' handicaps determines how many bonus legs are awarded. Both players can have handicap values — only the difference matters.

5Standings Impact

Standings use effective totals (actual legs + bonus legs) for determining wins, losses, and draws. The league table shows a "H'cap" column with each player's handicap value.

The match detail page shows both the effective score (with handicap) and the actual score (without handicap) so you can see the real result alongside the adjusted one.

6Recalculate (Auto Mode)

Click "Recalculate Handicaps" on the league page to update all handicap values based on current averages. This is useful after a batch of matches have been completed and averages have shifted.

Handicaps don't apply to friendly or doubles matches.
